With almost twenty years, experience working in a variety of Haemato-oncology settings in three different countries I have been in my current role as a Haematology Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust for just under a year having spent the previous thirteen years as a Lymphoma/ CLL clinical nurse specialist. Within this role I act as a leader and role model for excellence in Haematology nursing providing specialist advanced nursing practice, intervention, expert guidance and support of patients particularly in their direct care and management of a haematological malignancy, subsequent chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy and their post treatment follow up within the Haematology Department.
I completed an MSc in Advanced Practice (Cancer Nursing) at Kings College London in 2013 and as a result have implemented new initiatives and services to improve patient care. I have a special interest in the development of nurse led initiatives developing and independently run a nurse led Long Term Follow up / Late Effects clinic for Lymphoma patients in 2009 who are two years’ post completion of initial treatment and those post autologous stem cell transplants and mantle radiotherapy and an End of Treatment clinic in 2012. Recent nurse led initiatives include an ANP led Lymphoma “on treat” clinic, a CNS-led MGUS and a Lymphoma Active Surveillance clinic. I have a specialist interest in survivorship issues and the optimisation of elderly patients’ pre chemotherapy and am working with our local Geriatric Oncology service to optimise this service. As co-chair of the Haematology Members Interest Group of UKONS, a member of Bloodwise Nurses Advisory group and BSH Nurses group I work tirelessly to raise the profile of Haematology nursing in the UK.
